Mutant of the Week: Iceman

This weeks Mutant of the week is none other than Bobby Drake aka Iceman.  It just so happens that it goes along quite nicely with Cecelia's Man Crush Monday this week.  Yea, we are awesome like that.  Iceman is a great character to feature this week, not  only because of this, but because he has been with the X-Men from the very beginning.

Name: Robert "Bobby" Drake
Aliases: Iceman,  He has also gone by Mister Friese, Drake Roberts, and Rampage
First Appearance: X-Men #1 1963
Powers and Abilities: Able to lower his external and lower temperature and radiate cold.  He can freeze moisture around him into ice. Iceman is also able to withstand very low temperatures without harm to himself.  He is also able to move over great distances by through water by merging his molecules with that of the water.

Unlike other mutants listed previously Bobby Drake met Xavier and the X-Men early on.  Bobby discovered his gifts while he was a  young teenager.  He was able to keep it a secret to everyone but his family until a local bully attacked him.  Iceman panicked and froze the bully-revealing his powers to the town.  The town held a mob and Bobby was taken into custody of the sheriff for his safety.  Charles Xavier became aware of this and sent Cylcops to recruit Bobby.
Iceman did not want to go with Cyclops and the two started to fight.  Meanwhile the mob broke into the jail where Bobby was being kept and tried to hang both him and Cylcops.  Xavier was able to stop this by erasing the peoples memories.  Bobby then agreed to go to Xavier's School where he was one of the first students.
At one point Bobby is captured by none other than Asguardian God Loki.  Loki wants to use him to help gain control of the frost giants.  During his capture Loki enhances Iceman's powers so much that he is forced to wear a dampening belt to subdue the powers for some time.

Like my other posts this one is just a quick overview of the characters origins and how he came to meet the X-Men.  Iceman's basic back story is pretty simple seeing as he was one of the first X-Men.  That doesn't mean it is a boring character.  You should check out the Marvel page for more information that is much more detailed for more info.

As you guys know from Cecelia's post, (or maybe not).  Iceman is portrayed by Shawn Ashmore in the X-Men films.   He has also been in many of the comics as well as in some video games and X-Men the Animated Series.
